Meet The Teacher Guide: All You Need To Know

I started the year by using this template to introduce myself to my students. Needless to say, it was well received.

Why is this a great idea:

1. It's a great way to break the ice and open a communication line.

Having open and honest conversations with parents and students is going to be very necessary down the line. This is great way to start it. The parents know they can reach out through WhatsApp and Email as shown in the bottom of this template while the students warm up to the idea of a new teacher through all the fun facts.

2. It gets the students excited to meet their new teacher.

Going into a new term and meeting new teachers can be daunting for the students, especially the younger ones. They're probably comfortable with their teachers from last term. Something like this gets your students excited to see you.

3. It lets the students connect with you.

We're months into this term and I still have the occasional student telling me about their latest harry potter read. Your students are likely to see your fun facts as an invitation to connect over some common ground. What's great is that the conversation can be genuine because both parties are genuinely interested in talking about the subject. You can also change the fun facts depending on the class you teach. I hear the younger generation is very much into Roblox, maybe it's time to be interested in that too.

What's the best way to share this:

1. Put print outs on the student's table before they come in:

I would've absolutely loved to try this. Unfortunately, classes have been online because of COVID-19 restrictions. I haven't had the opportunity to try this yet but I personally think this is the most exciting way to introduce yourself.

2. Share this into your GC:

Your GC stream is really handy for announcements like this! If you have one GC for every subject, this is ideal as you won't be mixing your template with other teachers who might also be doing the same thing. You also want to make sure all your students are in the GC before you share this.

While I'm sure there are other softwares out there, I just love how user friendly it is. There are already lots of ready-made templates, so all you need to do is type in "Meet The Teacher", pick a free template you like, add your picture and customize your facts. Download your template after that and you're ready to go.
