I try to recall the last time a book made me cry like this and I cannot recall it.
I then try to recall the last time a book made me question my own mortality in such a manner and only "Tuesdays with Morrie" comes to mind. Even then, Morrie had lived a long, fulfilling life. Paul, was only 37.
Unlike most books, this one doesn't bring you on a roller coaster. There are no plot twists. No miracles. You know what awaits you in the end; death. And yet, when I reached the end, I was surprised and taken aback that it was still, death that awaited. Ironically, much like life. A quote I stumbled upon in uni and found profound then comes to mind; "most people live in denial of Death's patient courtship, until late in life and deep in sickness, they become aware of him sitting bedside." Again, Paul was only 37.
Read this book only if you have courage to question your mortality. Come to realize how fickle life is, and how there is nothing you can do about it.
